Have you ever had one of those days?

My routine was interfered with this morning. I normally wouldn’t complain, but I had things planned a certain way today. That’s what I get for trying to get things off to a good start.

It doesn’t matter if you work or not, your day is usually laid out with a routine. Mine starts off getting up way to early, the shower usually wakes me up. Then getting dressed in the clothes I picked out the night before, if I didn’t forget to do that.

Then the makeup and hair. See a pattern…most can relate. Then it’s off to make lunches, trying to get a variety, so it’s not the same thing day after day. Yes, I pack lunches! After stumbling over the dog, who only wants to get up early on the weekends, she will get some food.

Then it’s time to check on the turtles and turn on their light for tanning time. Yes, I said turtles, they are great, interesting creatures. My husband finally strolls out of the bedroom, mind you I woke him up about ten times in between all the other things I was doing. By then I am wide awake and ready to go.

The Day Goes By

I pick up dirty clothes and look around the house to see what kind of a mess I will come home to. Then it’s time to tell myself, “I should have done this last night”. As I go to my home office, checking my desk for the things I need to take with me to my other office. When I am ready and my husband is out the door, it’s time to check and make sure things are turned off and locked.

I usually run around the house three or four times to make sure. Anyone else every do that.

Routine, do you have one?

I do have more than one way to drive to work, but I usually go the same way, listen to the same radio station and see the same scenery. It’s a country road, you might see a handful of cars, and if you are lucky, a few wild animals. I can see Turkeys, Elk, Deer, or Woodchucks, just to name a few.

This particular morning, I had more than the average plan. I wanted to meet someone before work. But, interference was in my way. See there is this thing called “train”! I have to cross four tracks on my commute. Wouldn’t you know it, out of all the days I travel this road, I had to stop twice.

The first train was crawling along like it didn’t have a care in the world. Once it passed, I thought I was home free. NO, as soon as I got to the next set; the crossings came down and I sat again. So much for getting to my destination when I wanted.

I guess plans do not always go the way you want and life is full of change. I did make good use of the time though. I pulled out my phone and caught up. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked-in, and email. I was caught up for the morning, so I wasn’t to upset I missed what I had planned.

As time passes I will not need to worry about my routine or commute so much. When time becomes mine; I can sit behind as many trains that happen to cross my path.

How is your routine?
