People don’t decide their futures, they decide their habits.
Have you ever thought about how you wound up where you are in life? You look back and say “what happened”? Or are you happy where you are? If so great; but for me, I was unhappy with my job, I was unhappy with my home.
I was unhappy not having money left over at the end of the month. I couldn’t enjoy going out or taking vacations or wondering where I was going to get that extra money to fix what broke.
Don’t get me wrong, I had what others considered a good job, a great family and on the outside things looked great. But I was unhappy at where I was at. I was not in control and I realized I was just living day by day. It just became a habit.
Excuses Excuses
I had lots of excuses for why I had not reached my goals, but what it boiled down to, was that I didn’t really have any goals – I had been just hoping life would get better. I needed to change my habits.
It is easy to get sidetracked by the activities of daily living, raising kids, cleaning house, making meals. We may start out with goals and dreams and plans for the future, but somewhere along the line, we develop the habit of just living. We fall into routines that become habit – and habits are hard to break. Studies have found it takes 21 days in a row to set a habit, and longer to break it.
Here is a lesson for you.
How do you spend time on a regular basis? Write it down. The hours you spend watching TV, searching the internet for entertainment? Do you read fiction or sleep in? Most of this is OK if you do it in moderation.
You need to live intentionally! Make plans for your future and work diligently to achieve your goals. Analysis your habits and evaluate whether they are moving you closer to your goals or holding you back. Really think about where you want to be and just go for it. Who is stopping you?
I am changing my habits and my situation.
I am learning how to write my goals, and creating habits to change my future for the better. “I have a vision and a dream of where I want to be and with my action I know I am headed in the right direction. I know I will have doubts, I know I will have downtimes. But my goals and outcomes are truly in the right place for it to happen!”
You can have this type of affirmation also, your life can have meaning and be expanded to its full potential. If you want to succeed you need to be taught how. A good analogy is “if you teach someone to fish, they will never go hungry!” Let’s change our habits.
If money is standing in your way, then you need to change your thinking! The cost of not knowing something is the cost of not knowing how to hold it together. Let me show you how to change and learn something new.
Make that decision….
That’s the only thing that separates you from where you want to be and where you are at now. What you dream! People don’t decide their futures, they decide their habits!
