Open Wide and You Will Get Eaten, Is Your Language Killing You

Are your thoughts open wide on your sleeve, or are you killing the conversation before it can get started?  Language comes in many forms and versions.

The quality of your thoughts can only be as good as the quality of your language.  Continue to grow your vocabulary in order to gain your power. For me I love to work with computers, yes some call me a nerd, but I am a numbers person.   Knowing the language is very important for us all to communicate.

Did you know its true with people also.

Language Plays a Big Role

Vocabulary and communication can play a big role when you are trying to get your point across to others or building yourself up to higher levels.

To let you know a little more about me, I have been studying computer code lately. That is where one computer knows that it can talk to another computer because, it either has permission or it has the route information.  It’s like learning a new language actually.

I am not going to bore you with the details, but we can all understand that when the wrong information is attached to each section, it will not work. On the other hand if there is too much information then it just stops, or you get the circle of death to tell you that you need to wait, yet not for how long.  If you have ever worked with computers then you know exactly what I mean.

Human Language

Humans are just like machines when it comes to interpretations and explanations. They have to know what you are talking about, or at least enough to keep their interest in order to move forward. That’s where language come in.

Law #4. Always say less than necessary.

“When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control. Even if you are saying something banal, it will seem original if you make it vague, open-ended, and sphinx like. Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish.”

This law wants you to think before you speak. The use of your vocabulary can determine where this will go. It wants you to guide yourself in saying what is important, yet not going so far that you overload them or babble on to look foolish.   This can cause the overload and the circle of death to where they will just turn it off or complain about it.

Working with the codes on the computers is all in the command prompt. You know that black screen with a curser prompt. So to actually find your problem and see the solutions to fix them, takes time, you also need to give it the right command for it to show you. And the more connections that are broken the harder it seems to trace it out.

With human communication, once your words come out of your mouth you cannot take them back. It is encoded in the others brain. If they were the wrong ones then more explanation might be needed, or the apology is another whole conversation.   Takes time to find your fix.

Language and Conversation

Looking at this “Law of Power” some more. It shows us that power is a game of appearance and that your silence makes others uncomfortable.  Just like when I use sign language, they just look at you harder.  (Yes, I know Sign Language)   It makes them intrigued and trying to guess what it is about you. Who you are? How did you do what you did? The rumors and maybe even legends get attached to you.

But, Do not be like the Oysters

“Oysters open completely when the moon is full; and when the crab sees one it throws a piece of stone or seaweed into it and the oyster cannot close again so that it serves the crab for meat. Such is the fate of him who opens his mouth too much and thereby puts himself at the mercy of the listener.” Leonardo da Vinci 1452-1519

Besides being the open prey it can be more damaging to say foolish things than to actually do them. Words can be very abusive if used incorrectly. Choose them wisely.

Know when to be silence and when not to be

Being too silent can arouse suspicion and even insecurity, it can lead others to think you have gone down the wrong path.   Being silent must be practiced with caution.   This does not mean that you can use your ears.

Your language balancing key.

If you want to become a leader and have a better understanding of people, then learning vocabulary and communication should be on the top of the list. Balance your speaking with your listening and it will get people to come and find you.  You will not get eaten or killed by your audience, yet you will be sought after and gain a better following.

Judy, Now you have me thinking. I wouldn’t think Shakespeare’s character would be common. Studying Shakespeare in school we all seem to get a different impression of what he actually said. The mystery don’t you think? Did he say to much or to little.

In my programming days – GIGO, was what we understood. And Shakespeare had a good speech about this in The Merchant Of Venice – Gratiano speaks an infinite deal of nothing ……But as Shakespeare had lots of long speeches in his plays, does that make his characters common?
