Have you ever just sat in a room and felt overwhelmed? Look around and what do you see? Stuff, and more stuff. It got me thinking of the importance of stuff!
Stuff comes in many categories. Some are important memories, others are just decoration. Then the rest is just filler or things you don’t know what to do with so it sits there staring back at you.
Categories of Stuff
I needed to rearrange my office to get another piece of furniture in there and I started to analyze or categorize what I had. I started in and cleaned out a lot of things.
Had to move the book shelves so the first place I started was with all of my books. It seems like everytime I do that I let go of more.
We all have had different journeys and ways to help, but when you move from one to the next, do you need to hang on to everything you found? That is what I thought too, NO! I had self help books, and mindset training books, journals from many years.
Books on planning your day, and focusing on tasks. Then books to just read, even though they were great stories, I will let someone else have them.
Stuff For Comfort
Now it’s time to look at the furniture I have in there. I was planning on making it a multi-use room. I got a murphy cabinet so it can be a spare place for guests. Yes, an extra bed! But to do this I need to rearrange and simplify my desk.
With my journey changing again, I am not in need of a large desk, just a place to sit once in a while and balance my books. So downsizing and detaching from things is a must. I have worked at a desk most of my life and getting rid of those pens and paper clips is hard. Hehe, never know when you need one.
Importance of Stuff
My goal for this room is to make it more kid friendly and to make it clutter free. I need to have it more calming and refreshing.
Memories can serve many purposes, and when you put importance on stuff you lose focus of other things that are more important. Time to ask the right questions to move yourself forward!
Keep smiling
Sandy
