The Ultimate Caregiver’s Mindset Survival Guide
When the journey of life has taken a left turn, and out of control.
I needed to find myself and a direction for my life. In other words, I started to look at who I am, what I can do for others and where my future will lead me.
Have you ever felt that way?
With the milestone of turning 50, my husband was diagnosed with cancer. Wow, having to deal with this new challenge, my career, schedules, kids, aging parents, and having any sort of life, I needed something to hold it all together. With all this, I was feeling lost and following the unknown was even worse.
I had decisions to make!
My life turning left was showing me that I needed to learn new things. For instance, how to be a caregiver for a loved one and how to do things on my own. In our five-year struggle with cancer we learned a lot.
I started to read and dove into research to stay busy, especially on days when you were at Chemo treatments or hospital visits. Mindset and personal development had more meaning. In all of that, I had to figure out how to keep going with a smile on my face. People were depending on me.
We had to come with terms with our schedules, our future, our budget, our daughter wanting her dad to walk her down the aisle. Our son getting married, and just growing old together. Yet, we found that the hardest thing you must do in life is plan your own funeral.
What I Learned
What I have learned to do now; is to teach others how to have a positive mindset and smile through any adversity they might come across. For instance, I strive to help them find their own way and learn to cope with the things they need to get done.
You start to become aware of what you are capable of doing and allow yourself to go on. Bringing in that fighting spirit to deal with the challenges that come along. You don’t need to be stuck and lost. Hense, there is hope and encouragement to be a conscious caregiver, wife, mother or child.
I found the answer I was looking for, the one that will ease my life. One that gives vision to change and one that will let me have control with purpose and meaning. I love to be outdoors and enjoy what nature has for us. Giving me a challenge is just like a puzzle and I could spend hours finding that last and final piece.
